Yorktown’s Arbor Day Contest Accepting Poster Submissions

Arbor Day Poster Contest

(April 12, 2022) – The Yorktown Planning Department is accepting children’s submissions for the 2022 Arbor Day Poster Design Contest.

All fourth- and fifth-grade students in the Town of Yorktown are invited to submit entries that highlight this year’s theme: Trees Invite Me Outside. The submissions should depict how trees invite the artists outside and help them connect with nature.

“Yorktown is blessed with extraordinary natural resources,” said Supervisor Matt Slater. “Young artists can draw their inspiration from our miles of nature trails or our many parks. We want to see posters that celebrate Yorktown’s Tree City USA status or the glory of the great outdoors.”

Poster submissions are due April 19 and this year's Arbor Day event will take place on April 29 at 4:00 p.m. at the Patriot Garden behind Yorktown Town Hall, 363 Underhill Ave. Poster entries will be displayed inside Town Hall.

All entries must be vertical (not horizontal) and a title or caption can be included. Other rules are:

  • High contrast color recommended as the winning submissions will be made into banners that need to be clearly visible to passing cars. Any form of coloring product is acceptable: crayons, markers, paint, colored pencils, etc.
  • Poster paper size 22” x 28” is best. White poster paper only.
  • No poetry or prose entries.
  • No entries with TV/movie trademarked characters due to copyright issues.
  • All entries must clearly indicate the full name, school, and grade of student(s) on the back of the poster.

Students should submit their entries directly to their art teachers. Students not associated with a local school art program may submit their entries directly to the Planning Department located in the Albert A. Capellini Community & Cultural Center at 1974 Commerce Street.

Contact the Yorktown Planning Department at 914-962-6565 for additional information and to arrange pickup of entries after the ceremony and display of posters.

Posters not chosen as winners must be picked up at the Planning Department on weekdays between June 1 - 10. Winners can be picked up weekdays between July 5 - 14.
