Yorktown Employees Deliver Gifts to Homebound Seniors

Town employees donated over 180 gifts that will be distributed to homebound senior citizens this week.

The gifts include slippers, blankets and other useful items. They were collected by the department of senior services, whose programs range from nutrition to grocery shopping and medical transportation. The donated gifts will be delivered this week during the town’s homebound meal delivery service.

“Our municipal workers’ generosity is overwhelming and truly heartwarming,” said Noreen O’Driscoll, Yorktown’s senior services manager. “Some of the seniors we serve have rarely left their homes since the pandemic began, so a wrapped holiday gift is a symbol of hope at a time when many families are facing renewed precautions related to holiday gatherings.”

Some of Yorktown’s senior programs are currently on pause due to social distancing requirements. Many of those programs occur in the Albert A. Capellini Community & Cultural Center, which is currently closed.
