Yorktown Receives Two Lower Bids for Garbage Service

Town looks to keep costs low while maintaining same level of service

(October 3, 2022) – Yorktown hopes to continue providing the same level of garbage service to residents when it signs a new carting contract beginning in January.

Yorktown received new proposals from two companies – AAA and Competitive Carting – that are far lower in cost than the initial bids. This is the fourth time the town has put the contract out for bid in an effort to reduce costs while maintaining the same level of service. The new contract proposals came in from $250,000 to $500,000 lower than the initial bidders.

Yorktown Supervisor Matt Slater said that the town was able to negotiate the savings and now has a host of service options for the Town Board to review. The goal, he said, was for homeowners to continue to have twice weekly pick up under the new contract.

“We were happy to announce that we were able to negotiate a more reasonable cost for garbage service that did not cut service,’’ said Slater. “The bottom line is that we were aggressive and persistent, and it is paying off because we were able to maintain service at a lesser cost.’’

The Town Board is expected to review the proposals in the coming weeks and enter into a new contract starting January 1, 2023.
